New Bill Seeks to Dissolve Washington Liquor and Cannabis Board

Cannabis Businesses

Legislation was introduced by Representative Drew McEwen to dissolve Washington’s Liquor and Cannabis Board. The lawmaker wants to see a director appointed by the governor with confirmation from the Senate instead of having the Board.

The bill claims that licensees that should receive penalties, aren’t, says My Northwest. There have been problems with traceability as well. Business owners are unhappy with the transparency regarding industry data as well.

The bill reads, in part, “Countless licensees are increasingly becoming frustrated with the lack of assistance and help at the Liquor and Cannabis Board, and that the Liquor and Cannabis Board prefers to penalize its licensees for administrative or technical violations, rather than helping them comply.”

It’s unknown how far this bill will go but the debate is expected to be quite heated.
