Washington Lawmakers Working on Allowing Marijuana Billboard Advertising

Washington Marihuana

Washington is working on setting guidelines for billboard advertisements featuring marijuana. One of the biggest provisions being that the ads cannot be appealing to children or teens in any way.

An update was approved by the state’s Senate banning the use of cartoon characters in advertisements, according to The Spokesman – Review. Anything that resembles a cartoon or adolescent theme is prohibited.

Other updates including giving more authority to local governments and permitting transport of plants to research facilities. Sales of plants will also be permitted to research facilities.

Senator Ann Rivers said, “This is just a common sense thing we can do.”

Some senators want a complete ban on marijuana billboards altogether.

Senator Mike Padden said, “We are loaded with billboards. I don’t think they are helping they situation at all.”

The bill did pass, even with some senators wanting the law to go further and be more restrictive.
